  1. Great tips Zack! Come over to the Petco channel top say hello!

  2. Hey Zak, quick comment/remark.  Early in the video, a comment is thrown up about dogs not feeling spite.  A Westie I had a while back used to love sitting on my lap whilst mowing the (very large) lawn.  Naturally, you have to be careful maneuvering a riding lawnmower to account for the dog.  I was in a hurry one time, and didn’t want to take the time necessary allow him to sit on my lap, so I refused him the ride (took him inside after he clearly knew what was up), and he proceeded to tip over, and spread every trash can in the house.  He was known for digging in trash every once and a while, but never all of them over the course of a three hour period of being alone in the house.  I would think that’s a bit more than a coincidence and a good laugh.  That had every indication of spite.

    • Hey @Scott Miller, Not necessarily. You had trained him to know that lawn mowing was a thing you guys did together. When you started the process and then cancelled it, he didn’t understand why you were breaking the ritual you guys shared and this gave him anxiety. Dogs act out when anxious. He was likely just having anxiety, not being spiteful towards you. +Zak George’s Dog Training rEvolution What’s your take?

    • Just speculating from experience. Thats why I consulted Zak in the end. Im not an expert.

  3. I’ve had 2 house dogs in my life.  Both peed in the house once, and both pooped in the house once.  When I first brought them home, I expected them to eventually go potty, so I was paying very close attention and when it happened, I stopped them mid squat.  I took them outside and kept them there until they finished their business.  As soon as they were done, I rewarded them and let them back in the house.  After that, they let me know when they had to go and I continued rewarding them for going outside… at least for a few days.  They never soiled the carpet again.  Even the youngest had no problem learning, and she was only 8 weeks old.

    • Friends I found the best website that will help you to train your dog professionally. Here is the website Dog4Training.blogspot.com Hope this will help…

    • Yep. Its so goddamn easy. But americans are SO lazy that they go for the cage “training” directly lol. Just go outside after sleep/play/foodtime. Wipe up if it happens inside, and ignore. Keep this up and its done fast and easy. No need for a cage. And if you train properly, you will never need to lock your dog in a cage when you leave them alone.

  5. I was 6 when I got my dog, and I didn’t know how to train her. I also had a newborn brother, and my dad went wacky. Now I’m 11, and my parents are really mad at me. I finally understand how to train a dog, and I’m trying. My dog never got potty trained, or at least well. And, my dad punished her and I just start crying because he’s so mean to her. I really need to train her or they are going to make her live outside. So, I will try theese tips, and I hope they work.

    • I’m in the same position. I was young and I didn’t know anything when I got a puppy I just wanted a cute puppy. Now my dog is whacky, my parents get MAD annoyed by him and he has zero training. Can barely know sit. It’s too late to train my dog he’s 9 in human years.

    • I’m literally in the same exact situation as you! I’m so frustrated :/

    • Bridget

    • I suggest taking them out OFTEN even if they don’t needa pee. Im in the same position and my older doggos are set in their ways. It’s guna b hard but u gotta persevere! If u need to leash em up and tie em to ur belt so u can watch them 24/7. My dogs know how to pee on command now however they do occasionally pee inside if they are bored, or know another dog is in the house. Also take em on walks and make sure they get every ounce of pee out before you bring em back!

      Good luck!!!😘

  6. My family just adopted a 10 week old black lab puppy. While we were at the breeders house, we brought a small stuffed alligator and rubbed it on the other dogs so it would smell like her family. When we got back to our house we placed the toy in the crate and she walked right in. We gently closed and she just sat there and played with the alligator. Now she loves to be in her crate because her alligator is in there. This method works really well.

My dog lived outdoors for the first 3 years of her life before I adopted her, I was very hesitant to adopt her because she was older and I thought it would be harder to potty train her, BUT I brought her home and within 20 minutes she was scratching at the back door begging to go outside to do her business… A method I used on a past puppy was to make a schedule of bringing them out, lets say the puppy is two months old, I’d try to bring it out every 2 hours which worked well, plus it helps getting yourself on track… I used to work in a vet clinic and a Doggy Daycare where I was able to bring my dog to work with me which helped tremendously, but I would suggest when getting a new puppy that you would be able to spend alot of time at home, lets say you’re still in school, I’d wait until beginning of summer vacation to get a dog because it would give you months to train your new family member 😀

  9. Step one: purchase this crate..ugh

Eh, crate training is the most effective means of house-breaking. You don’t have to buy this brand, but whatever. Think of it like a leash, food/water bowls, toys, dog house (for outdoor dogs), etc. It’s just something that comes with owning a puppy/dog. You’ll thank yourself later.

  10. Anyone know how to potty train a dinosaur? I need help…

  11. when I got my first dog potty training was the easiest all we did is took them pee every 30 mins or less to make sure they knew it was the right place to go and soon enough he would cry at the door when he needed to go

  12. I love how you compared a puppy to an infant. I say that to my husband all the time. He’s quick to yell at our 8 week old puppy, and doesn’t understand why I won’t scold her when she has an accident. I’m going to show him this video.

This is my first puppy, she’s a 7 week old Yellow lab, she’s a sweetheart but she’s the runt, and she whines constantly when nop ones in the room. She always whines when i shut her in her crate, even when there are treats buried in her bed there, and she seems extremely attached to me. Any advice?

  14. why do i watch stuff like this?? I dont even have a dog..

  15. Only one concern. You teach with a border collie, which by nature is a very intelligent dog. Can you re-do potty training with a more difficult breed,,so that we may better understand what concepts to convey to the animal.

    • +Zak George’s Dog Training rEvolution I have a 3 year old blue nosed pit bull and now we own one of his pups (it’s a boy). The pup spent 6 weeks with the mom and his other brothers & sisters. Now that we have him, him and his dad were friendly at first but now the dad just tries to get away from him most of the time. I’m thinking because he bit his dad in the nuts and is constantly harassing his private area. Is this normal because at some moments it feels as if the pup still thinks it’s with his mom.

Jordana McCloy I know this comment is old but same method just bring them to the pads and reward them for going on there

  17. I’m a teenager who will be doing a lot of training for my family’s new puppy (we will be getting her tomorrow and I’ll be meeting her for the first time). She has had experience in cages (she is a rescue) which should be helpful. I do find your videos quite helpful, and I’m looking forward to showing my new little baby off to everyone I know. Hopefully these lessons I plan on giving her will work, because my parents are more strict when it comes to training, and have never reacted well to accidents in the house. I want to prove to my parents 1) that I’m capable of raising a dog too and 2) that being more patient and respectful instead of strict will create a better bond with a dog. I look forward to watching more of your videos and thank you for the help!

    • +WatchMehDuThangs We got this pit mix named Pearl and so far it’s been good. She tends to follow both me and my mother everywhere since we both do most of the dog sitting. There’s been a large decrease of accidents since we got her and I’ve been doing lots of training. She’s a fast learner

    • +Nerds Up good job dude. i ended up getting a german shepherd puppy thats 3 months. so far in about 3 days i confidently feel that ive taught it to sit on command and its also a very quick learner. she has only had 2 accidents inside so far and seems very calm. Good luck to the both of us 🙂

    • +WatchMehDuThangs I’ll see you on the other side XD

    • just joining in this convo. sameeee I’m way late since this was like 3 months ago but I’m getting my rescued dog in a week and so nervous. hows it going for you?

    • How is it going?!
