Hey Zak! I love watching your videos and I have used them a lot for training my new 4 month old male golden retriever puppy!
I had a question though about food aggression. I have tried feeding him from my hand, putting my hands in the bowl, and even getting him a maze bowl to slow his eating down but all of these methods have still led to him snarling at me every meal time.
I’m really running out of ideas and I would really appreciate some your help!

I have exactly the same problem with my 6 month old golden retriever. He’s an angel otherwise but while eating I have to maintain distance. One more thing I wanted to ask. Sometimes he ingests something undesirable and then refuses to let go (and growls and snarles). Does your dog do the same?

Sydney Van Beek put a tennis ball in his bowl

Start using tug games to teach your dog to “out” (drop) the toy. Once you get that really fluid, you should be able to transfer that skill to any object your dog picks up.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for you advice! My puppy is doing much better! I have taken a step back from always hovering over him and stressing about his behavior when he eats and it’s allowed him to relax around his bowl on his own! I will try the tennis ball if he starts to speed up his eating!
Thank everyone for their help with this!!!

Hey Zak! Great video. An older version of this video helped me to find my dream dog. Louis the Flatcoat is 12 weeks now and learned how to sit, lie down, spin, heel and fetch in a few days with the instructions from your book and the videos. So thank you so much!!! I’ll male sure to soon get to your Patreon page 😉

  8. Does your book have a list of dog breeds with energy levels you mentioned (1-3). That would be awesome.

    • Thing is I have a Jack Russell/Patterdale cross who’s super laid back and chilled out. The exact opposite of what’s typical of both breeds. He doesn’t chase small furies, doesn’t dig and isn’t at all stubborn. He’s a freak !

    • niwaar he has a channel just for that it’s a secret channel you should see something like that on there

It’s a good idea to always take into account the dog’s natural personality and not just the purpose and characteristics the dog was bred for. That way, you will be able to have the dog fit into your lifestyle and you will set you and your dog up for success and have a lovely life together 🙂

  17. i definitely want a husky. i just have to wait a little while for me to get my own place because my parents don’t like dogs 🙁

    • min hurts same

    • min hurts hope you get one soon…hope I can get one before I’m too old…see, don’t want to be negative but that’s just how it is – I always wanted a dog but my dad is against dogs in appartments. So I was like OK, once I’m adult, have my own place and my own money…well and now for over 7 years I am living on my own and still don’t have dog – not that I couldn’t afford it, but I leave at 8am and come home from work close to 7pm, and I definitely don’t want my dog to be alone for 11 hours 5 days a week… 🙁 no dog should be left alone for so long… :-(((
