Hey I know you don’t know me but to spread the positive dog training message you should try and collaborate with other youtubers as they get new puppies or if they have dogs that they would like help training. I think it would be awesome if you could help other youtubers and reach their audiences

  2. Hey Zak. I am trying to get a german Shepherd but my parents say that it is too much work. I am willing to do everything for it so are my parents exaggerating. At least from your videos and my willingness to train it, it doesnt seem “that” hard.

    • Hey Ben, I got a dog in college. It can be fine if you are honest with your self and dedicate your time to him. But – consider your time – do you want to be able to party? do you want to be able to socialize and go out with friends…. believe me its hard. Even when you just have homework and people want to study at a library or at the school. You can’t, you have to go home and take care of your dog. It’s limiting. I would say wait until your done college then go from there.

  3. Also, is a german shepherd a good breed for a good family dog but also loyal to one person?

It definitely hasn’t been hard for me to keep up as of yet, though what I did was that I got my dog as soon as summer started, so I basically had as much time as I needed to put toward training her and making sure she got house broken as quickly as possible, which basically took me putting a dog kennel thingy in my room for all of summer and waking up in the middle of the night to let her out to go the bathroom. Luckily, after those 3 months ended along with summer, everything was so much easier since she was completely housebroken and had begun to get a little less small and crazy. Overall though, I definitely haven’t had any trouble yet, its just that those first 3 months took much more of my attention to really get her into those good habits that stick with them for the rest of their life.

Ben Jones I’d suggest a Doberman personally.

    • German Shepards are guard dogs but if you want a good breed for a family dog get a golden retriever they are loving and the most wanted family dogs

    • I have a Golden Shepherd mix. She looks like a GSD but acts like a GR

Our puppy arrives in 2 weeks time, we love these videos and have bought your book Zak. 9 yr old daughter has been practising what is in this video on her toy dog! Brilliant stuff, thank you 🙂

  20. i work on stay a lot with my new puppy at feeding time. I like to make him sit and wait, not be attacking me — or anyone else — while attempting to feed him. Having a lot of young children around, I find it important he be gentle while taking anything from treats to dinner — and only take what he is given. He’s 12 weeks old now, and I haven’t had a puppy in 16 yrs 😀 Great dog though, your videos have been helpful as we journey through dog training. Whole party of people on the 4th, with kids, a strange new environment, and loud fireworks, and he stayed near me, no barking, performed his new tricks like a champ, & even went potty where I asked him to on command! I can’t ask much more from a dog I’ve only had a little over a week — I think I need to start offering him more treats, even though he’s doing really well already.
